The brake switch on your Hyundai Sonata is a petty, electrical Slogan that powers your brake lights when you transaction on the brake pedal. A non-functional brake switch can be especial hazardous considering drivers latest you aren't alerted when you are applying your brake. The switch itself is mounted to the top of your Sonata's brake pedal. The most difficult aspect of making this home repair is having to work in a very cramped space. Slide your Sonata's front driver's side seat back as far as it will go so you have a little working room and then get into a position where you can view the top of your brake pedal.3. Remove the clamp at the top of the brake pedal that holds the brake switch in place.
Disconnect the ground, or negative, battery cable from your Sonata's battery. Do this by first loosening it with your socket set; then pull the cable and terminal mount off the negative battery terminal.
2. However, this challenge can be overcome if you use a very short Phillips screwdriver when removing the clamp.
Instructions
1.Do this by inserting the tip of your screwdriver into the the screw that holds the clamp in place at the top of the pedal arm. Once the screw comes out, pull out the clamp and the old brake switch.
4. Remove the plastic wiring harness from your Sonata's brake switch by hand and slide the old switch out of the clamp. The clamp more or less wraps around the body of the switch, so it is only a matter of slipping it out by hand.
5. Slide the new switch into the clamp and then wrap the clamp around the top of your brake pedal's arm. Insert the fastening screw by hand and then tighten it down with your screwdriver.
6. Replace the negative battery cable and then test out your Sonata's brake light.
