Replace A Mazda 6 Thermostat

The Mazda 6 is available with either a four-cylinder or a V6 engine. Replace the radiator drain plug and reconnect the negative battery cable.9. Carefully twist the radiator cap with it wrapped in a towel.

Instructions

1. Unhook the balky battery cable and remove the plastic engine subsume.

2. Remove the cooling reservoir cap (not the radiator cap) to advance the engine coolant flow. Remove the engine brush guard underneath the front cut of your engine bay to access the radiator drain plug.

3. Place a drain pan or a suitable container underneath the radiator drain plug. Then remove the drain plug to let the coolant drain. When the coolant is finished draining, cover the container and set it aside in a safe place.

4. Loosen the clamps from the engine air box hose and unplug the MAF (mass-air flow) sensor. Remove the air box hose.

5. Disconnect the upper radiator hose to access the thermostat housing. Remove the three bolts from the thermostat housing. Then use a pair of pliers to loosen the clamp and move the lower hose out of the way.

6. Pull out the old thermostat and gasket. You cannot reuse the gasket; it must be replaced.

7. Mount the new thermostat and gasket with the jiggle valve in the "up" position. Replace the housing and the upper and lower radiator hoses.

8. Reinstall the air intake assembly and tighten the clamps. Reconnect the MAF sensor. The four-cylinder (2.3L) does not hold a serviceable thermostat. The thermostat is division of a larger cooling meeting, and must be replaced at the dealership. The V6 engine (3.0L) does enjoy a serviceable thermostat. This tutorial is particular to 2003 to 2008 models of the Mazda 6, with the V6 engine.

Let it sit for a few seconds to release pressure before removing it.

10. Replenish the engine coolant and replace the radiator cap. Start the engine and monitor the operating temperature. Inspect the hoses for leaks.
