Locate Lexus Knock Sensors

Whether your Lexus has been acting sluggish and not accelerating also as it should, then you may retain a defective knock sensor. Once you have located the sensor, look on the other side of the engine for the second sensor.

Instructions

1. Park your Lexus on a level surface. Engage the parking brake and open the hood of the engine compartment.

2. Extend your dental auto inspection mirror by grabbing the frame of the mirror and pulling the telescoping arm out to its complete length.

3. Hold the mirror under the intake manifold so that you can see the engine block underneath it. The intake manifold is where the exhaust pipes join the engine block.

4. Shine your flashlight onto the engine block under the intake manifold and locate the knock sensor on that side. The knock sensor will be mounted to the engine block, near the middle of the block. It is round in shape and about two inches in diameter, with a wiring harness coming off the end. The sensor is screwed into the block. To properly test a knock sensor you have to remove it from the engine. Your Lexus is designed not with one knock sensor, but two. You will need to know locate your Lexus knock sensors before you can begin to consider remove them.
