Remove Rust From Corners

Rust leaves flaky, bronze-colored scale on metal corners.

5. Leave the caustic jelly on the corner for 30 minutes. Naval jelly penetrates and dissolves rust in corners and other hard-to-reach areas.6. Although there are many tools available for rust removal, only flexible supplies can eliminate rust from corners and various hard-to-reach areas.

Instructions

1. Detach loose soil and corrosion from the corner with a wire brush. Scrub vigorously along the length of the corner. Extract as much rust as possible.

2. Dampen a clean, non-abrasive rag with mineral spirits. Wipe the rag over the corner to clean off detached soil and corrosion fragments.

3. Rinse off the mineral spirits with water. Dry the metal corner with a towel.

4. Inspect the corner for rust fragments. If even just a speck of corrosion lingers, use a cheap paintbrush to liberally coat the corner with naval jelly. Wear acid-resistant gloves and protective eye wear.

Leaving iron and steel exposed to carbon dioxide, oxygen and moisture inevitably generates rust. The corners of metal objects, where moisture collects, are particularly prone to corrosion. Rust causes ferrous metals to swell and crack, thus making the objects more vulnerable to chemical reactions that speed the process. Left disregarded, rust advances through susceptible metal corners until they disintegrate.

Rinse the corner with water twice, to flush away the naval jelly. Dry the corner with a clean towel.
