Selling a vehicle in Pennsylvania requires a notary to entire the transfer of ownership. Instructions
1. Clean your vehicle and take pictures of it to include with your sale advertisement. Use websites such as your local Craigslist site, PennLive, or eBay Motors to advertise your vehicle. Include important vehicle details, such as the year, make, model, level, mileage and overall condition.
2. Do not sign your title until you are in front of a notary. Print your name in "Section A" on the back of the title. Your buyer will also have to sign in front of a notary.
3. Check the exact mileage on the vehicle you're selling and input the accurate reading in the "Section A" portion of the title where stated.
4.5. Sign in front of a notary to complete transfer of ownership. You and the buyer can go to a local DOT office together to complete the transfer.
Create a bill of sale for your own records and protection. Pennsylvania taxes the new owner on determined market value, not the actual purchase price. Type or hand-write a note stating all relevant vehicle information, both your name and the buyer's name, the date of the sale and that the vehicle is sold as-is. Both parties sign the note and keep a copy.
6. Remove all of your items from the car, including insurance and registration information. Take your plates off the vehicle and return them to a DOT office as soon as possible.
