Repair Nicked Glass

Save income by repairing glass nicks yourself.

Nicks in windshields, windows or glass-topped tables constitute a flimsy objective in the glass surface. Road rattles and wind cause small windshield nicks to become large cracks. Leaning on glass-topped tables causes uneven pressure to the surface, causing a nick to turn into a crack. Repairing a nick is a temporary measure to limit the damage. The repair may last for weeks, months or possibly even years depending on the amount of use and force the glass encounters. Repair a nick as soon as it occurs to prevent large damage.

Instructions

1. Spray the nicked area of glass with a grease-fighting detergent. Glue syringes resemble syringes used in health care but do not have a needle at the end. Some epoxy-based adhesives come in a ready-to-use tube, as does cyanoacrylate adhesive, known as super glue, instant glue or fasting-setting adhesive, which is appropriate to use as well as epoxy.3. Insert the tip of the glue syringe or tube into the nick.

Scrub the area with a toothbrush to remove grease, dirt and oils. Let the glass dry fully.2. Draw a clear epoxy-based adhesive into a glue syringe.

Depress the plunger top or gently squeeze the tube to fill the nick so that it lies flush with the existing glass surface. Allow epoxy-based adhesives to dry for 48 hours before use. Cyanoacrylate dries immediately.
