Sew all pieces together, leaving the back seam open to allow you to stuff the cushion back in the cover.
This will allow the removal of the cover for washing. This is a personal choice and it depends a lot on how and what you use your boat for.6. Determine the length of welting needed by running it along the border of the top and sides and bottom and sides. Vinyl is typically used in places that are exposed to the elements, so it won't be removed for cleaning. It can be cleaned without removing the cushion inside. For the fabric-covered cushions, you may want to use a zipper.5. Stuff the cushion into the new cover. Once the cushion is in, you can close this last seam with either thread or a zipper. For the vinyl cushions, it is suggested to use thread and close the seam up.
Once you have determined the length necessary, add a couple of inches to it (you can trim later) and stitch the welting in place either by hand or with the machine.This step is optional and is based on personal preference. Consider using welting on vinyl covers topside as they tend to take a real beating over time; below decks, opt for a smooth fabric with no welting.
