Switch The Fan Inside A Ford Taurus

Whether the engine on your Ford Taurus is overheating, one doable justification is a malfunctioning or worn away fan. Disconnect the lower transaxle tube, and remove both transaxle oil cooler tubes. Remove the lower radiator mounts and lower the vehicle from the jack stand. Unfasten all bolts retaining the hood latch and push it to the side.

1. Take off the air cleaner and the cleaner assembly. Disconnect both battery cables, negative cable first. Remove the battery tray and the battery.

2. Lift up the front end of the vehicle with jacks and support it on a jack stand. Block the rear wheels to keep them from rolling.

3. Open the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and drain the engine coolant into a container with a snug lid. Unscrew the bolts that connect the shield to the lower radiator hose, if the car is so equipped. Pull off the shield and remove the lower hose. If your Bonneville is equipped with an air conditioner, disconnect the hoses and cap them to avoid contamination.

4. Although replacing the fan on your Taurus is little, gaining access to the fan can be tricky. On the other hand, provided you include some mechanical familiarity, you may be able to modify the fan yourself. Here's convert the fan in a 1996 or next base Ford Taurus.

Instructions

5. Take off the cover on the front bumper and the upper radiator support. Remove the power distribution box along with the harness and bracket, and set them aside. Unplug the fan motor wiring and take out the screws on the sensor wiring and move them out of the way.

6. Remove the bolts holding the fan to the frame, and remove the fan assembly. Install the new fan and replace the four screws with your fingers, starting with the two top screws, and proceeding to the two lower screws. Tighten them securely with a ratchet wrench, but be sure not to over tighten them.

7. Replace the engine components in the reverse order in which they were removed. Replace the engine coolant and reconnect the battery cables. Start the engine to be sure the fan is working correctly.
