This forces grease into the bearing, filling it up. Continue this until grease comes out of the area between the center race and the bearing retainer. Turn the bearing in your hand slightly and repeat the process until you are sure the grease has been forced between all the bearing rollers. Do this for both bearings.
11. Wipe all of the old grease from the inside of the hub. Check the bearing races (the shiny tapered ring the bearing fits into) for rough spots or burnished areas. If any are found, the race must be replaced. If all is well, coat the races with a light coat of wheel bearing grease.
12. Place the inner bearing in the race. Install a new grease seal using a seal driver. Lightly grease the lip of the grease seal.
13. Wrap the threads on the end of the spindle with masking tape. This protects the seal when the hub and tire is installed on the axle.
14. Lift the hub and tire onto the axle and push it all the way onto the axle.
15. Install the outer bearing, thrust washer and nut. Turn the nut clockwise to tighten. Tighten the nut with a socket while turning the wheel, tightening only until resistance is felt in turning the wheel. Then back off the nut 1/4 turn. Tighten the nut again, but only until all play is removed from the wheel. Don't over tighten it.
16. Install a new cotter pin and the hub cover. Repeat for all the wheels on the trailer.
