The oil pan gasket on the 1996 Dodge Ram 5.2-liter engine is specious of rubber, so it does not disintegrate from the engine heat and oil. Yet so, it Testament eventually age cracks and leak over duration. The oil pan gasket should be replaced, as soon as you cognizance it leaking.
Instructions
1. Pull the oil dipstick elsewhere of the dipstick tube, and fix it aside. Hoist the front of the Motor lorry with the floor jack, and flotation it with jack stands. Slide the drain pan under the truck. Remove the drain bolt on the oil pan, using the appropriate socket or wrench. Allow the oil to completely drain. Discard the oil in an appropriate manner.
2. Unbolt, and remove, the exhaust crossover pipe. Remove the strut, located between the engine and transmission. Remove the oil pan bolts. Support the oil pan, as it comes down. If it does not come loose, tap it with a rubber mallet, but do not pry it off.
3. Clean the gasket-mating surfaces on the oil pan and the engine, using the screwdriver and rags.
Reinstall the oil pan drain bolt. Raise the truck, using the floor jack, to remove the jack stands. Lower the truck off the floor jack. Fill the truck with the recommended oil.
5. Smear a thin layer of RTV silicone onto the oil pan mounting surface. Fit the oil pan onto the gasket. Screw the bolts, by hand, as far as they will go. Tighten the oil pan bolts to 15 ft-lbs of torque. Ensure the oil pan gasket stays in place.
6. Reinstall the exhaust crossover pipe, the strut and the oil dipstick.4. Smear a thin layer of RTV silicone on the engine-mounting surface. Fit the gasket onto the engine, taking care to ensure the bolt holes line up. The ends of the gasket must fit over the top of the front and rear seals.
