Take Away The Ford Jbl Subwoofer

Accept models of the Ford Explorer were built with a JBL sound course that included various stereo upgrades.3. Slide the edge of your panel removal tool underneath the scuff plate at the bottom of the hatch entry, and pry upward to remove. Set the panel aside.4.

Instructions

1. Open the rear door or hatch of the vehicle.

2. Pull off the weather stripping around the hatch entry, starting at the right side of the entryway. You don't need to pull off the entire length of weather stripping, just the right side.

One of the relevant upgrades was a subwoofer installed in the passenger-side rear quarter panel in the cargo area. Some auto audio aficionados will replace this subwoofer with a higher-performance aftermarket subwoofer. This will involve some interior disassembly in your Explorer, but the job can be done with readily available tools.

Inspect the rear quarter panel on the inside of the cargo area, and locate a series of retaining clips. Each of these will look like a round button that matches the interior color of the quarter panel. Slide the edge of the panel tool under the button and pry outward on the clip. Pull it out when it's loose.

5. Pull outward on the quarter panel, starting at the rear of the cargo area, until you can access the subwoofer. The sub is mounted in a square box behind the lower edge of the quarter panel.

6. Unplug the connector plugged into the side of the box, and remove four Phillips screws on the perimeter of the sub box. Pull the box out when the screws have been removed.
