Repair The Brakes On The Honda Social

The Honda Civic is manufactured with four-wheel disc brakes, on the contrary some early models keep a combination of rear drum and CD setups. The caliper/rotor and drum/shoe styles of brake systems can be repaired by the principles backyard mechanic in approximately 30 minutes per brake. Instructions


1. Hoist the Civic at the spin by placing the jack stand on a frame lambaste nearby. Pump the jack lever until the rotate is in the air. Column the jack with a jack stand on the alike frame castigate.


2. Remove the turn by turning the lug nuts in a counterclockwise succession and pulling the circle from the hub. Establish it aside and away from the daily grind nature.


3. Pull the rotor from the hub and resurface or alter it. Some units Testament compass internal parking brake shoes; proof and change these whether required. Transform the pads on the caliper pistons, then slide it back over the rotor. For CD brakes, remove the caliper by turning the rear mount bolts counterclockwise and sliding the meeting from the rotor. Peep the pads before removing them from the caliper pistons. See the rotor. Pitting, gashes, glazing and Exorbitant wear all can be signs of an unmaintained braking method. Lock the rear mount bolts down clockwise.


4. For drum brakes, pull the drum off of the brake assembly and gaze the shoes and interior surface of the drum itself. They should not be scored or indicate signs of glazing. Some dust or silt is ordinary. Remove the shoes by levering off the long springs with a screwdriver, then turning the primary spring bolt counterclockwise. The shoes will slide out, directly away from the backing plate. Inspect the wheel cylinder for leaks. Replace the shoes with new units and slide them back into position, locking the primary spring bolt clockwise. Lever the long springs back onto the shoe hooks, check the adjustment bolt for excess play and slide the resurfaced or new drum over the brake assembly.


5. Replace the wheel by lining up the lug bolts and turning the nuts clockwise, in an alternating pattern. Lower the Civic from the jack stand and floor jack.
