Originally introduced in 1983, the Camry is Toyota's flagship midsize sedan, with the first off vehicles produced in the U.S. in 1998. The State Highway Traffic Safety Polity gave the vehicle four elsewhere of five stars for the driver and five stars for the passenger for frontal crash test safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the car an overall "Good" rating after frontal offset crash testing, because of high marks for the structure and safety cage; chest, leg and foot safety, and restraints. The engine displaced 2,164 cc, with a compression ratio of 9.5 to one and a torque of 147 foot-lbs at 4,400 revolutions per minute. This gave it a customary towing ability of 1,000 lbs. and maximum towing faculty of 2,000 lbs.
