Significance
At different times, Chevrolet has used special gold paint to mark special events, such as the 50 millionth car to be built. The vehivle was introduced slow in 1961 as the 1962 imitation.
The Car
Chevrolet chose the SuperSport Impala to utilize for its anniversary automobile. The machine had special gold distemper, gold bucket seats and decals marking it as a special edition.There was little difference, other than the paint and seats, between the standard Impalas and the Impalas used as anniversary editions. The Super Sport was a two-door coupe. It had a 327 V8 as standard, and a 409 V8 was available. This performance car could reach 60 miles per hour in 7 seconds.
