Place A Piston Engine Within An Rx7

Performing an engine swap on an RX-7 takes appreciable mechanical skill.

The Mazda RX-7 can accomodate a traditional piston engine, though some adjustment is chief. Auspicious swaps keep been carried elsewhere for all three RX-7 generations: the FB, FC and FD cars.

Chevy V8 Swaps

The primary advantage of a swap is to produce more power than the rotary is capable of. The third-generation RX-7's twin-turbocharged rotary has so much potential that a swap is less desirable. Particular attention needs to be paid to suspension and steering geometry. The RX-7 chassis was built for a tiny rotary engine, not a big gas guzzler.

Other Engine Swaps

Other engine swaps are yet less general than V8 piston engines as the rotary has portion of performance potential without a swap, especially in the FC and FD. Custom kits are available for Ford 2.3-liter turbo and Nissan V6 engines, among others.

Advantages and Drawbacks

Due to their ubiquity and mounds of bent, some advanced Chevrolet V8s own establish their pathway into FB, FC and FD cars. The LS1 V8 from the Camaro and Corvette makes a remarkably enticing candidate due to its altitudinous dynamism and relatively low payment of entry. Custom fabrication Testament be required for drivetrain and chassis components to accomodate a larger, heavier engine.
