Vortec Engine Specs

The Vortec cognomen comes from the technology GM uses to produce a vortex in the engine.


The Vortec engine scope is used in many of the trucks produced by the Universal Motors partnership. Vortec 8100

The Vortec 8100 is the greater brother of the 7400. This 8.4-liter V8 engine has the twin cast-iron block and heads master however uses a slightly higher compression ratio of 9.1:1. It can complete a maximum of 340 brake horsepower at 4,200 rpm and produces up to 455 foot-lbs. of torque at 3,200 rpm.



As with the L30, the L31 uses a cast-iron block and head design and achieves the same 9.4:1 compression ratio.
