Switch The Solenoid Inside A 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1. Remove the negative terminal from the battery with a pair of pliers.


2. Elevate the vehicle with a jack and place it on jack stands. Remove the skid plate, if installed, on four-wheel drive models.


3. Disconnect the wires from the starter solenoid using an open-end wrench and remove any clips holding the wires to the starter assembly. To remove the wires from the solenoid, it may be easier to remove the mounting bolts and lower the starter while supporting it, preventing it from hanging by the wiring.


4. Remove the mounting bolts using a socket wrench and take the starter assembly off the engine.


5. Install the new starter motor assembly by reversing the removal procedure.


6. Lower the vehicle. Reconnect the battery negative cable. Start the engine to verify the repair was done correctly.
