The important assistance of an alternator is to supply electricity to amble a vehicle's electronic systems. The alternator provides influence for everything from engine Glimmer to air conditioning; it all the more keeps the battery charged. This initial efficacy is if by the vehicle's crankshaft, which is connected to the alternator by a serpentine handle sash. Take a reading from the voltmeter: If the battery is fully charged, the reading should be between 12.4 and 12.6 volts.3. Start the engine and take a reading from the battery again as you did earlier.

Turn the vehicle's engine off and raise the hood.
