Clean The Oxygen Sensors Inside A Lexus Sc400

Work an oxygen sensor can restore its overhaul.

Oxygen sensors are placed in the exhaust stream of an van, such as the Lexus SC400. The sensors principles exhaust Gauze and add this hookup to the engine's machine which, in turn, adjusts the fuel and timing trim. When an O2 sensor is not operating fair, the engine Testament pace poorly. While manufacturers reccomend replacement rather than repair of an O2 sensor, cleaning an O2 sensor may restore functionality without the committal to shop for a inexperienced one.

Instructions

1. Lift the vehicle with a hydraulic jack and secure it on jack stands. The Lexus SC400 is equipped with four O2 sensors, two per bank. Go after the exhaust manifolds from the front of the engine to underneath it where you Testament beam the O2 sensors screwed into position, both before and after the catalytic converters on Everyone side of the engine. The O2 sensors Testament get wires plugged into the top of the sensors that escape back into the engine bay.

2. Spray the O2 sensors with penetrating oil and sanction it to sit for at least 10 minutes. On a hovering milage vehicle, this evolution should be repeated diverse times.

3. Bag a box-end wrench or O2 Emigration socket to remove the sensor for cleaning. Whether the "Check Engine" light on your Lexus SC400 has come on, the code will tell you which sensor is not operating normally. Otherwise, clean all four oxygen sensors so that the engine's computer signal remains consistent.

5. Spray the oxygen sensor with throttle body cleaner. Allow it to soak in then gently tap the end of the oxygen sensor to dislodge any deposits. Repeat, as necessary, until the sensor is clean.

4. Examine the oxygen sensor to make sure the contact is intact and has not cracked, broken off or been damaged. The sensor contact will be black and covered with carbon; but if it is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

6. Reinstall the oxygen sensor once it is dry and cleaned. Lower the vehicle with the hydraulic jack. You may want to place a dab of anti-seize compound on the threads of the oxygen sensor so that it is easier to remove in the future.
