Remove the Pump

5. Check the engine support and then use the adjustable wrench to undo the two bolts on the number two idler pulley sub assembly, a/c compressor connector. Undo four more bolts that will allow you to separate the compressor from the belt tensioner assembly and remove them.


6. Record the configuration of the retaining bolts, marked A and B. Remove the water pump retaining bolts and the pump. Clean the mount. Reinstall the radiator drain plug. Remove the jack stands and engine support. Lower the Toyota Tacoma to the ground and remove the jack.12.



Inspect the new Toyota Tacoma's water pump to ensure it's the correct pump and it's free of defects. The surfaces that will form a seal should be smooth and level.


8. Arrange the new water pump on the mount. You won't need sealant for the gasket on a Tacoma. Hold the water pump and gasket in place as you secure it with the new bolts.


9. Insert the new bolts into the water pump. The bolts are marked on the head with two letters either an A or B. Torque the A bolts to 80 inch pounds and the B bolts to 17 foot pounds of torque.


10. Install the belt tensioner assembly and the rest of the parts in the order you removed them. Use a new o-ring in the water inlet pipe.


11. Discard the pump, o-ring and gasket.

Attach the negative battery cable to the post and tighten the screw on the clamp. Refill the radiator with the proper amount of coolant.


13. Start the engine and check for leaks before you shut the hood. Clean up any spilled coolant.
