Alter The Window Motor On The 1996 Grand Am

The 1996 Pontiac Grand Am offered many convenient options from the plant, including aptitude windows. The ability window action consists of the window switch, the window Engine and the window regulator. If any, or all, of these components fail, the entire power window system fails with it. Once you’ve determined your 1996 Grand am needs a new window motor, you can purchase the new motor from your local General Motors dealer and then install it yourself, if you have basic automotive repair skills.


8. Pull the old motor out of the door by hand and insert the new one. Bolt the new motor to the door and window regulator using the socket set. Connect the wiring harness to the window motor by hand.



2. Remove the screws from inside the door pull using the Phillips screwdriver. Pry the reflector lens off the trailing edge of the door panel with the trim tool and remove the screw behind it using the Phillips screwdriver.


3. Pry out the inner door-handle bezel with the trim tool and set the bezel off to the side.


4. Slide the tip of the trim tool between the door panel and door at the rear-bottom edge. Pry the trim pin located there out from the door itself using the trim tool. Pry out the four trim pins along the door-panel bottom: one on the leading edge, two under the "A" pillar trim and two at the top of the door panel, in the same manner.


5. Lift the door panel up and off the door by hand. Set the panel someplace where safe for the rest of the procedure.


6. Push the window glass to the top of the door frame and hold it there with one hand. Run the packing tape from the inside of the glass, up and over the door frame and down onto the outside of the glass to hold the window up while you replace the motor.


7. Disconnect the wiring harness from the motor by hand. Unbolt the motor from the door and the window regulator using the socket set.


Instructions

1. Pry the window switch bezel out of the door panel using the trim tool. Unplug the wiring harness from the bottom of the switch by hand.


9. Reinstall the door panel in the reverse manner of how you removed it. Take the packing tape off the glass when done.
