19631967 Chevrolet Corvettes Specifications

The Chevy Corvette has changed dramatically because its introduction in 1953.


The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports vehivle coveted by many motorcar enthusiasts. In the 1950s, GM was the largest association in the U.S., nevertheless none of its offerings included a sports motorcar. Built as a spec machine not intended for any other direction than for showing at the Advanced York Car Pageantry in 1953, the Corvette began Industry in Jun of that year. In 1963, the Sting Shaft narration of the Corvette was introduced, fast until 1967.


Exterior


In 1963, GM Chief of Design Bill Mitchell and his assistant Larry Shinoda introduced the world to the first ever fastback coupe. This model-year of Chevy Corvettes features hidden rotating headlights, tail-shaped back windows and a large bar which splits the back window into two halves. Most of the exterior design is non-functional. Grilles in the hood and in the fenders are just for show. In 1964, the grilles and the back window bar were removed. The 1965 model-year saw the introduction of three front fender louvers. In 1966 the exterior remained the same as in 1965, unchanged until 1967 when GM added two additional louvers to the fenders.


Interior


The interior specs for all Corvettes from 1963 through 1967 did not change much over the course of the Sting Ray years. Base models were the standard, but buyers could opt for additional amenities, including leather seats, power windows and power brakes. Power steering, air conditioning and the AM/FM radio were also optional features.


Engine


The 1963 Corvette has a three-speed manual transmission. In 1967, the Corvette topped out with a 500-horsepower engine made with aluminum cylinder heads. Its standard 327-block V8 engine generates 250 horsepower. Chevy also offered optional 300, 340 or 360-horsepower engines. The engines remained unchanged in 1964, but additional engine options became available, including a 375-horsepower engine. In 1965, four-wheel disc brakes were added to the list of options for the Corvette as well as a 425-horsepower engine.
