Wire An Automotive Electric Fan

An automotive fan must be connected using a relay.

Automotive cooling fans are an essential cut of an automotive cooling step. Provided an van has no air Stirring on ice the radiator or over the engine, the engine Testament overheat. An overheated engine can develop into damaged within a event of minutes; thereupon, affliction the automotive cooling fan in working adjustment is a top precedence.

When one fan is inadequate to supply Sufficiently air circulation, an more electric fan may be added. The fan must be wired to the automotive electrical action properly so that the fan sole operates while the engine is started.

Instructions

Switch Installation

1. A toggle switch (honest) can be installed nailed down a gap in the dashboard.

Drill a gap in the dashboard bulky Sufficiently for the toggle switch. Chop a length of wire and strip 1/2 inch of insulation from one borderline of the wire. Place a quick-disconnect terminal on the other wire end and crimp the terminal to the wire.12. Loosen one of the top bolts on the positive battery terminal. Insert the spade terminal in the space between the battery terminal and the top bolt.

3. Corner the quick-disconnect terminal on one of the switch terminals. Push the two cool until the quick-disconnect terminal fits snugly on the switch.

4. Dart a length of wire from the switch to the battery. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from Everyone edge of the wire. Berth a quick-disconnect terminal over Everyone extreme and crimp the terminals to the wire ends. Push the quick-disconnect terminal on the switch extreme of the wire to the remaining switch terminal until the quick-disconnect fits snugly on the switch.

5. Loosen the retaining follower at the top of the rocker switch and install the switch into the gap from the back of the dashboard. Alter and tighten the switch retaining kernel so that it holds the switch to the dashboard.

Fan Relay Installation

6. Everyone relay terminal is labelled with a amount.

Push the quick-disconnect terminal on the switch wire onto the "85" terminal on the relay.

7. Intersect a length of wire spread out Sufficiently to arrive from the relay to the battery and strip 1/2 inch of insulation from Everyone purpose of the wire. Assign a quick-disconnect terminal on one limitation of the wire and crimp the terminal to the wire. Accommodation a spade terminal over the other borderline of the wire and crimp the terminal to the wire. Push the quick-disconnect terminal onto the "86" terminal on the battery.

8. Distance a spade connector over the point of the ebon wire on the fan and crimp the terminal to the wire. Place a quick-disconnect terminal on the red (or white) wire on the fan and crimp the terminal to the fan.

Please note: Many replacement fans come with the ends of the fan wires pre-stripped. If the wires are unstripped, strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire end first and then proceed with this step.

9. Push the quick-disconnect terminal from the fan wire onto the "87" terminal on the relay.

10. Loosen one of the top bolts on the negative battery terminal. Insert the two spade terminals in the space between the battery terminal and the top bolt. Tighten the bolt so it holds the spade terminals snugly against the battery terminal.

11. Cut a piece of wire that reaches from the battery to the relay switch and strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire end. Place a spade terminal over one of the wire ends and crimp the terminal to the wire. Accommodation a quick-disconnect terminal over the stripped foot of the wire and crimp the terminal to the wire.2. Deposit a splice connector over the car starter wire. Encompass the unrestrained edge of the formerly chop length of wire into the splice connector and crimp the splice connector to build the electrical connexion.

Tighten the bolt so it holds the spade terminal snugly against the battery terminal. Push the quick-disconnect terminal on the other end of this wire onto the "30" terminal on the relay.
