Fix A Polaris 500

The Polaris 500cc ATV takes leaded or unleaded petrol. But, provided drench gets into the fuel, the fuel receptacle Testament itch to be drained in codification for the quad to profession properly.

In 2011, Polaris Industries offered dozens of ATV makes and models on its website. From high-performance racing quads to neophyte ATVs to four-wheelers meant for advantage, the scale of products is meant to ask to disparate kinds of drivers. The corporation has four changed 500cc ATV models, including quads in the Scrambler, Sportsman HO, Sportsman Forrest, and Sportsman Touring makes. In spite of differences in features and item, the electrical and engine systems remains the comparable for all four makes. Thus, descendant repair tips are again coincident for all 2011 Polaris 500cc ATVs.

Instructions

Electrical

1. Application the Polaris 500's starter and listen for engine turn over. Whether no turn over is demonstrate, the electrical process may duty to be constant.

2. Establish and examine the quad's main fuse. This is typically located under the rear cab, beneath the quad's seat. Remove the seat and rear cab screws with a standard wrench and access the main fuse.

3. Remove the fuse with a pair of pliers and inspect. If connection at the center of the fuse is broken, the fuse has likely blown. Replace with a new fuse of the same amperage. Polaris 500 ATVs require a 20 amp main fuse.

4. Try the starter again. If the engine still won't rotate, move on to a battery check.

5. Locate the battery case, also located under the quad's seat in the rear cab. Remove the battery by first undoing the strap holding the battery in place and removing the cover. Disconnect the black (negative) battery cable, then the red (positive) one and lift the battery out of its case without tipping it.

6. Tighten all battery terminals with a wrench. If the terminals are corroded, scrape this away with a stiff wire-bristle brush. Use the starter. If the engine rotates but does not start, or if the engine starts but runs irregularly, check the quad's fuel level.12. Refill the tank with 87 octane gasoline or higher if the fuel level is low.

If it is damaged or heavily corroded, replace it with a new 12-volt battery.

8. Charge the battery to its full capacity using a separate battery charger.

9. Return the battery to its case and reinstall the battery cables, this time connecting the red (positive) cable followed by the black (negative) cable. Secure the battery cover and hold-down strap and reinstall the rear cab and seat.

10. Operate the Polaris 500's starter. If the engine still won't turn over, take the quad in to the shop to have the electrical system inspected.

Engine Trouble

11. Clean away buildup using a solution of one tablespoon of baking soda mixed with one cup of water. Dry thoroughly with a clean rag.7. Inspect the battery's condition.

13. Inspect the condition of the gasoline in the tank if fuel levels are adequate. Watery fuel may be contaminated and should be drained. Take the quad to the shop to have the gas tank drained if gasoline is watery and refill with fresh gasoline.

14. Remove the front cab to access the spark plug. The spark plug is located in the Polaris 500cc engine's single cylinder.

15. Remove the spark plug gap and unscrew the spark plug with a spark plug wrench.

16. Check for electrode damage on the spark plug's tip. If this tip is burnt, brittle, or cracked, replace it with a new spark plug. All Polaris 500 quads take BKR6E spark plugs with a gap measurement of between 0.035 and 0.036 inches.

17.Measure the spark plug gap with a gap measuring gauge and ensure that the gap is between 0.035 and 0.036 inches. If not, tighten the gap by pressing the hook-end against a firm surface or widen the gap by pulling the hook wider with a spark plug gap tool.

18. Reinstall the spark plug and spark plug cap and use the quad's starter. If the engine continues to have problems, take the Polaris 500 in for further inspection.
