Repair Metallic Brake Line

A failed brake borderline is due to corrosion from pungency, either on the roads, which is used to melt chill, or from sea inundate as a corollary of launching a boat. Whether the corrosion is regional to a shorten of wrinkle, replacing the intersect is in classification. Provided the corrosion looks To possess spread over all the more of the edge, it is finest to alternate the complete brake column. Compression Trimmings are used to associate two lines in sync and to resist the power created in the brake development.

Instructions

1. Uplift the vehicle using the floor jack, and lay jack stands under the sub-frame. Lower the vehicle so it rests on the stands.3. Install one of the compression fitting caps over the end of the old brake line on the vehicle. Push a ferrule on next with the taper on the ferrule facing the end of the brake line. Bend the different edge to match the one removed.

2. Disassemble one of the compression Trimmings, which consist of a brass channel threaded on Everyone extent with a ferrule and a cap. The brass pipe ends are flared in and made to fit tightly over the brake line.

Gaze the brake line to impel the leak. Once begin, degree the extent of column that needs to be replaced. Intersect gone the pathetic reduce of brake edge using the tubing cutter. Degree the brake contour and subtract 1 inch. Push the pipe on the old brake line as far as it will go. Grab the pipe with pliers and use a little force on the pipe to keep it tight on the old line. While holding the pipe with the pliers, thread the cap onto the pipe end and tighten the cap with a wrench. This gives the end a strong seal.

4. Place a cap and ferrule on the end of the new replacement brake line. Push the new line into the pipe, and keep pressure on the line while threading the cap on the pipe. Tighten the cap with a wrench. Do the same for the opposite end of the line.

5. Open the hood and remove the cap on the master cylinder reservoir located on the driver's side firewall. Fill the reservoir to the high mark and replace the cap. Bleed the air out of the brake line by loosening the bleeder screw on the right rear brake drum or caliper using a wrench. Wait for the brake fluid to come out in a steady stream, and then close and tighten the bleeder. Do the same for the other three wheels, doing the left front next followed by the left rear and finally the right front.

6. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Check and fill the master cylinder reservoir. Start the vehicle and pump the brake to check for air in the system and look for leaks.
