Setting up A T&C Window Regulator

Introduction and Testing

Before installing a T&C (Town and Community) window regulator, essay to generate positive the regulator is the botheration. Turn the ignition main on and shot all the windows. Provided all the other windows attempt, coerce the switch for the one in catechism and listen for the Engine. Provided the Engine operates and the window fails to movement, then the regulator is malicious. Whether the Engine fails to function, research the window switch for capacity to the window motor. On most years of this vehicle, the door panel will have to be removed to get to the connector on the switch.

Removing the Window Regulator

Remove the plastic cover that conceals the backside of the outside mirror mounting point. Use a Phillips screwdriver and remove the two screws in the armrest and the one screw in the door handle. Install the common screwdriver in between the door panel and the door frame and pry out the three plastic plugs on each of the three corners of the door. These plugs are like plastic bolts but with the shank peeled up and they are held into their recess in the door by friction. Lift the door panel up and tilt the bottom out slightly to unhook the top ledge of the door panel. Turn the ignition switch on and use a circuit tester and check the connector to the window motor when the switch is actuated. Remove the nuts holding the upright regulator channels in place. Remove the electrical connector to the window motor and remove the three bolts holding the window motor to the door frame. Remove the window regulator and motor together out of the access hole in the door.

Remove the two bolts holding the window to the lower base horizontal channel. This is the one holding the window up. Insert the common screwdriver carefully in between the window and the door blade down and use it as a wedge to keep the window from falling when the regulator is removed. If there is power, the window motor is bad and if not the switch is bad. If the motor is bad, a replacement can be purchased separately for most model years. Remove all electrical connectors on the door panel and the door panel.

Installing the New Regulator

Install the new window regulator in the access in the door and hold the uprights vertical and insert their studs through the same hole that the previous regulator occupied. Install the nuts and tighten. Install the bolts into the window motor and connect the electrical connector. Hold the door panel close enough to connect the electrical connector to the window switch and turn the key on. Raise the regulator horizontal channel until it is in the middle of the access hole in the door to make it easy to install the bolts into the window base. Remove the electrical connector from the door panel and move the panel. Remove the common screwdriver and allow the window to come down until the holes in the bottom of the window line up with the holes in the horizontal channel and insert the bolts. Install the door panel and components in reverse order of removal.
