Use A Ford Exhaust Manifold

Ford offers a filled area of vehicles from compact sedans to full-size pickups. The engines vary from meager four-cylinders to monstrous turbo diesels. One contrivance that all Fords obtain in popular is an exhaust manifold. Every vehicle has one. Installing an exhaust manifold on a Ford, or any other vehicle, follows the duplicate measure. The particular residence of the manifold depends on the vehicle, however the manifold can be located by tracing your exhaust cylinder up over the engine to where it connects to the engine block. The manifold is the connexion between the conduit and the engine block.

Instructions

1. Accommodation a jack below the engine block. Unbolt the engine mounts. Most vehicles carry the mounts located on the sides of the engine connected to the frame. Remove the retaining bolts that clinch the manifold to the engine, and the bolts connecting the manifold to the exhaust channel.4. Scrape off all gasket materials from the engine block, manifold and exhaust conduit.

Situate a block of wood subservient Everyone engine mount to dominance the engine up.

3. Unbolt the exhaust manifold. Advantage a socket wrench to remove the bolts.2. Lift the engine a unusual inches to receive clearance to arrive the manifold.

Install modern gaskets onto the engine block. These will be held in place by small protrusions that fit into holes on the manifold.

5. Attach the exhaust manifold to the engine and hand-tighten the bolts. Use a torque wrench to set the torque to between 15 and 25 ft.-lbs. of torque. Tighten the bolts starting with the center bolts and work your way outward one bolt at a time.

6. Insert a new gasket between the manifold and the exhaust pipe. You will have to hold that in place as you tighten the bolts. Hand-tighten the bolts, then use a torque wrench. Tighten the bolts to between 10 and 20 ft.-lbs. of torque.

7. Remove the wood blocks and lower the engine into place. Reattach and tighten the engine mount bolts.
